The UCLA Film & Television Archive has announced its fall 2024 lineup, offering a wide range of screenings for film and TV enthusiasts. The season features various genres including science fiction, family films, cult classics, independent cinema, and more.

The program began with "Science Fiction Against the Margins," which runs until December 14 as part of Getty’s "PST ART: Art & Science Collide" initiative. This series is co-presented with the Hammer Museum.

The matinee series "Family Flicks," running from October 13 to December 15, continues to present family-friendly films globally. On October 13, the Archive will screen “Rod Serling’s Playhouse 90: ‘A Town Has Turned to Dust’” followed by a Q&A with author Molly A. Schneider.

A significant highlight is the world premiere restoration of Lisa Cholodenko's film “High Art” on October 25. The event is co-presented with the Sundance Institute and will feature Cholodenko and other guests in person.

On October 26, the Archive will showcase “Border Wars: The Radical Ethnography of John T. Caldwell,” focusing on Caldwell’s documentaries about migrant workers' exploitation and populist rhetoric.

In collaboration with the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities at UCLA, the Archive presents “A Film Series for You: Celebrating Giant Robot’s 30th Anniversary” from November 1 to November 17. This series includes iconic films like "Chungking Express" and pays tribute to Giant Robot magazine's history.

Paul Malcolm, Archive senior public programmer, said, “Having been an avid reader of Giant Robot during its print run and having seen its influence grow over the years, it was a tremendous honor and pleasure to work with Eric on this series.”

David Lebrun will be featured on November 23 and 24 in “Transfigurations: A Weekend with David Lebrun.” The program includes premieres from his extensive career that spans six decades.

The season concludes with "Three Homelands: The Transcaucasian Cinema of Sergei Parajanov" from November 23 to December 18. This eight-night series offers a comprehensive look at Parajanov’s visionary work.

Screenings are held at the Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum and are free through June 2025 due to an anonymous donation. More details can be found on the UCLA Film & Television Archive events page.
