Aircraft Accident at Santa Monica Beach | City of Santa Monica
On Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 3:17 p.m., the Santa Monica Fire Department, Santa Monica Police Department Harbor Guards, and Los Angeles County Lifeguards responded to an aircraft accident in the 1800 block of Santa Monica Beach. Upon arrival, Lifeguards, Harbor Guards, and Firefighters encountered a single engine aircraft that was upside down in the surf line. Two occupants were extricated and transported by Paramedics to a local hospital.
The aircraft departed Santa Monica Airport shortly before the accident when it reportedly attempted a landing on the hardpack sand. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation. More information related to the investigation will be made available at www.ntsb.gov.
Firefighters were assisted by the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, Santa Monica Police, Santa Monica Airport Operations, and NTSB.
