Actress Sara Foster has criticized Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom, attributing the state's issues to their policies. Foster expressed her views on X on January 8, stating that despite paying the highest taxes in California, there has been a failure to fireproof the state.

“We pay the highest taxes in California. Our fire hydrants were empty. Our vegetation was overgrown, brush not cleared. Our reservoirs were emptied by our governor because tribal leaders wanted to save fish. Our fire department budget was cut by our mayor. But thank god drug addicts are getting their drug kits,” Foster said in her post. “Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom resign. Your far-left policies have ruined our state. And also our party.”

According to Newsweek, Foster is among several celebrities urging Mayor Bass to resign. These calls are driven by concerns over mismanagement of fire prevention funds, empty fire hydrants, overgrown vegetation, and depleted water reservoirs. Foster argues that the budget for the fire department should not have been reduced.

The Hill reports that instead of addressing natural disaster warnings from wildfire professionals in Los Angeles, California officials prioritized "Trump-proofing" the state. They allegedly diverted funds away from disaster relief programs.

Cal Fire has reported that as of January 27, the Palisades and Eaton Fires are largely contained. The Palisades Fire burned 23,448 acres and resulted in 12 fatalities and three injuries. The Eaton Fire affected 14,021 acres with 17 fatalities. Santa Ana winds and drought conditions exacerbated these fires, which remain under investigation.
