The new director of Santa Monica's Recreation and Arts Department shared a heartfelt message with the community, expressing their love for the city and excitement to serve its residents. The director emphasized the importance of community engagement and collaboration in shaping the future of recreational and artistic offerings in Santa Monica.

Reflecting on their newfound love for Santa Monica, the director stated, "Though I couldn’t tell you exactly when I fell in love with Santa Monica, I just knew it -- I was home." They expressed gratitude to the community for the warm welcome and extended an invitation for residents to share their stories and ideas, saying, "I’d also love to hear your feedback on our current offerings and services, and your ideas for new programs and events you’d like to see offered in the future!"

In outlining their vision for the Recreation and Arts Department, the director highlighted a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Santa Monica, promoting wellness, and celebrating the city's rich arts and culture history. They mentioned plans to expand the range of programs and events offered to the community, with a focus on inclusivity and diversity.

Exciting summertime programs and events were also announced, including camps, aquatics activities, and enrichment programs for all age groups. Registration for the RAD Summer 2024 program was set to open, offering a variety of engaging opportunities for Santa Monica residents and non-residents alike.

The director encouraged community members to participate in upcoming events such as the Cardboard Yacht Regatta and the National Parks & Recreation Month celebrations. They also teased the summer concert series, promising a vibrant celebration of music, arts, and culture in the park.
