May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the city of Santa Monica is hosting a series of events and activities to highlight mental and behavioral health issues. The city invites the community to participate in these events aimed at increasing understanding and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health. According to the City of Santa Monica, "Join the city of Santa Monica for a series of community events and activities highlighting mental and behavioral health throughout the month of May."

In light of the importance of mental health, the city is also recognizing Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month in May. The crossover events will focus on promoting mental health awareness within the AAPI community.

For those in need of immediate help, the City of Santa Monica provides important resources, stating, "If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 9-8-8, the LA County Department of Mental Health Help Line at (800) 854-7771, or text 'LA' to 741741. Available 24/7."

Throughout May, various events will take place in Santa Monica, such as stress awareness events, mental health training sessions, art exhibitions, child abuse prevention workshops, and more. These activities aim to offer support and resources for individuals seeking help or information about mental health issues.

The city also emphasizes the importance of mental health partners and resources available in the community. Organizations like the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, CLARE | MATRIX, Family Service of Santa Monica, Providence Saint John's Child & Family Development Center, and the Social & Emotional Wellness Initiative are working to provide essential mental health services to those in need.
