California authorities are reminding the public to celebrate responsibly as 4/20 approaches. The focus is on safety and ensuring individuals do not drive under the influence of marijuana.
In a statement, an official emphasized, "Whether it is on 4/20 or any other day, it is unsafe and illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. It’s important to make responsible choices, especially when it comes to getting behind the wheel."
For those planning to partake in 4/20 activities involving marijuana consumption, the advice is clear: plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or opt to stay put. The warning is stern: "Do not drive, and never ride with an impaired driver. Driving under the influence of marijuana is dangerous, illegal and has serious consequences."
Studies have revealed concerning effects of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, on driving abilities. It can impair reaction times, distort judgment of distances, and hinder maintaining a stable lane position.
Moreover, if individuals encounter an impaired driver on the road, they are urged to take immediate action. The directive is to safely pull over and dial 911 to report the situation.
