Rep. Ted Lieu has announced the successful allocation of almost $2 million in federal funding for three significant community projects in Santa Monica. The funding, signed into law by President Biden, aims to improve access to affordable housing and enhance safety in the area.
"I am pleased to have secured nearly $2 million in community project funding that I know will have a positive impact on my constituents in Santa Monica," said Rep. Lieu. "Safety and housing are two key issues that are top of mind for so many of my constituents. I am pleased to have fought for funding for projects that work to address those concerns. It is an honor to represent Santa Monica in Congress and to bring back funding for each of these projects that will make a real difference in our community."
The projects championed by Rep. Lieu include $850,000 for the Santa Monica Affordable Housing Rehab Project, $500,000 for the Lincoln Neighborhood Corridor Safety Enhancements, and $469,100 for the Cloverfield Services Center Interim Housing Program Renovations.
The Santa Monica Affordable Housing Rehab Project will focus on rehabilitating a residential building in the Pico Neighborhood community. This initiative aims to improve resident safety, remove lead and asbestos materials, and enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the project will align with the City’s Climate Action Adaptation Plan by creating an environmentally sustainable building promoting wellness and wellbeing for residents.
The Lincoln Neighborhood Corridor Safety Enhancements project will introduce pedestrian lighting, upgraded crosswalks, and other safety features to enhance safety for pedestrians, vehicles, and transit riders along Lincoln Blvd. This project is part of a larger effort to improve safety in the community through various infrastructure upgrades.
Lastly, the Cloverfield Services Center Interim Housing Program Renovations will fund renovations to two interim housing programs in Santa Monica, benefiting individuals facing challenges related to mental illness, addiction, and homelessness. The project aims to facilitate access to essential services and ultimately help vulnerable individuals secure permanent housing and lead independent, healthy lives.
Rep. Lieu's dedication to securing funding for these projects underscores his commitment to addressing critical issues in Santa Monica and making a tangible difference in the community.
