WASHINGTON – On May 22, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) will grant nearly $250,000 to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for a project to improve collaboration between the cognitive science and artificial intelligence fields of study. The project, called Accelerating Research Collaboration on Artificial and Natural Intelligences (ARCANI), aims to integrate research networks with the goal of diversifying both disciplines and transforming the ways in which these issues are studied.
Each year, Congressman Lieu supports robust funding for NSF throughout the federal appropriations process. NSF allocates nearly 94% of its budget every year to providing grants and support for research projects, facilities and STEM education across the United States.
“I’m pleased that UCLA will receive nearly $250,000 from NSF for AI research. UCLA is an amazing research institution in my congressional district that is on the cutting-edge of many scientific fields, including artificial intelligence. Investing in research projects like this one is crucial to gaining a more comprehensive understanding of AI and its positive applications for society. I look forward to seeing the ARCANI project develop.”
