WASHINGTON – On May 24, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement praising the Biden-Harris Administration for its efforts to promote responsible American innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and protect Americans’ rights and privacy. The Biden-Harris Administration has taken significant steps to support AI innovation while managing its risks, including by putting forth an AI Bill of Rights, the AI Risk Management Framework through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a roadmap for federal investments in AI research and development, as well as an Executive Order to promote equity and root out racial bias in AI.

“AI has changed, and will continue to change, our society as we know it. I’m pleased the Biden-Harris Administration has taken a proactive and holistic approach to supporting responsible AI innovation, development, and deployment. Through the creation of the AI Bill of Rights, the Administration has put concerns for Americans’ safety and privacy first. It has also taken considerable action toward advancing responsible AI research, including through releasing a National AI Research and Development Strategic Plan outlining key priorities for federal investments in AI research. I thank President Biden and Vice President Harris for their leadership in confronting this issue head-on, and look forward to working with them on responsible and safe AI development.”
