WASHINGTON – On May 1, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) announced that he submitted 15 requests for Community Project Funding to the House Committee on Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2024. The projects submitted by Congressman Lieu would serve California’s 36th Congressional District by providing federal funding for infrastructure improvements, emergency preparedness efforts, affordable housing rehabilitation, and more.
“One of the best parts of serving in Congress is being able to advocate for local initiatives in my district that are improving the lives of my constituents,” said Congressman Lieu. “From upgrading an emergency operations center to enhancing pedestrian safety, these projects seek to make a real difference in our community. I am grateful to our local partners for their hard work and collaboration in this effort, and am eager to see the funding come through for our constituents in Los Angeles County.”
Full list of community projects submitted for funding approval by Congressman Lieu:
- $1,800,000 to mitigate the risks of landslides in the City of Rolling Hills
- $4,000,000 to mitigate the harms of excess stormwater and enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety in Culver City
- $3,000,000 to improve the City of Beverly Hills’ long-term water resilience
- $322,500 to upgrade the El Segundo Emergency Operations Center with new technology and equipment
- $4,000,000 for the Hermosa Beach Real Time Crime Center
- $2,500,000 for scientific research at UCLA related to quantum computers
- $4,716,600 to help prevent stormwater pollution in Downtown Lomita
- $1,000,000 to help mitigate flooding conditions in Manhattan Beach
- $3,600,000 to enhance the local economy in Redondo Beach by replacing the docks at the Redondo Beach Marina
- $2,000,000 to construct environmentally-friendly artificial turf sports fields at Columbia Park
- $4,000,000 to rehabilitate an affordable housing residential building in the Pico Neighborhood community of Santa Monica
- $4,800,000 to renovate the public restrooms at Venice Beach to ensure functional, accessible, and sanitary facilities for the public
- $2,200,000 to enhance safety for pedestrians, vehicles, and transit riders in the neighborhoods along Lincoln Blvd
- $1,000,000 to open a new workforce training center in the South Bay for individuals with disabilities
- $469,100 to fund renovations to two interim housing programs in Santa Monica run by The People Concern
In previous years, Congressman Lieu successfully secured funding for numerous community projects in his district. In Fiscal Year 2022, Congressman Lieu secured funding for ten community projects. In Fiscal Year 2023, he secured funding for 15 projects.
