At its February 28, 2023, meeting, the Santa Monica City Council accepted a $70,000 donation from Kiwanis Charities of Santa Monica to fund the fabrication and installation of new scoreboards at Historic Belmar Park and Los Amigos Park.

Los Amigos Park is a public park located on Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s Muir/SMASH campus and has been home to Santa Monica Pony Baseball since 1952. Historic Belmar Park opened at the Civic Center in February 2021. After two years of field usage, the community expressed a desire to add a scoreboard to the field, and the Kiwanis donation will satisfy that need.

"The City of Santa Monica appreciates the generosity of the Santa Monica Kiwanis Club and its commitment to serving our community," said Mayor Gleam Davis. "We are grateful to accept this donation that will enhance equitable play opportunities for the many youth and adult residents who engage in sports activities in our parks."

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica was established in 1922 and supports the community with its charitable division, Kiwanis Charities of Santa Monica, through acts of service, student scholarships, and other financial contributions, including a $50,000 donation to the City in 2015 that funded a new playground at Ozone Park.

"As a former Chair of the Santa Monica Recreation and Parks Commission and as the Immediate Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica, I am thrilled that the Kiwanis Club has donated these scoreboards to the City in honor of the Club's 100th Anniversary," said Neil Carrey, longtime Santa Monica resident and Kiwanis Board Member.

The City Council adopted a proclamation declaring February 28, 2023, Kiwanis Day in the City of Santa Monica to bring awareness to Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica, whose members provide meaningful services to youth in the community.
