After declaring a local homelessness emergency on January 3, 2023, the City of Culver City is preparing a safe-camping site for unhoused neighbors at the City-owned parking lot on Virginia Avenue.
• The purpose is to provide a safe, sanitary, and service-enriched environment for unhoused neighbors.
• Construction of the safe-camping site began in February 2023, and occupancy is anticipated to begin in April 2023.
• The site will house a maximum of 40 persons. All residents will be required to register and adhere to site-specific rules. Shelter will be provided in the City’s tents in designated spaces on site.
• The City will provide 24/7 security and supportive services at the site, as well as bathrooms, showers, laundry, recreation, lighting, trash, counseling and social services.
The City’s goal is for this to be the national model for a safe-camping site. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the City’s Housing and Human Services Department at (310) 253-6767. Please sign-up for email updates related to Culver City's homeless projects and programming.
