Rep Lieu Joins President Biden and Other Elected Officials to Celebrate Future Metro Stop at West La Va

Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) joined President Joe Biden, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) Mayor Eric Garcetti and County Supervisor Hilda Solis for a visit to the Metro Purple Line terminus construction site at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. The President visited the site to highlight the impact of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on national transit infrastructure. When completed in 2027, the Metro Purple Line will take riders from Metro Center at 7th and Figueroa in downtown Los Angeles all the way through Koreatown, Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Century City, Westwood and will end at the West LA VA. The future stop the President visited will enable veterans to travel directly to the West LA VA.

“Expanding transportation options for veterans as well as our community at large is a priority of mine,” Rep. Lieu said. “The future stop will better connect Los Angeles County veterans with the services provided at the West LA VA. What’s more, this station will serve as an important transit point for veterans who will be living on the West LA VA campus.

“I have been pleased to support the Purple Line expansion because it will enable more members of our community, particularly our veterans, to have reliable transportation. My office helped liaise between LA Metro and the VA, helping parties come to a consensus on what this project would entail. The West Los Angeles Leasing Act, which I co-wrote, established the framework to allow for VA redevelopment projects including this Metro stop. Now, thanks in part to funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we’ll get to see this project come to fruition in the near future.

“This is one of many accomplishments made possible by the unwavering efforts of President Biden and Congressional Democrats. In just two years, we have had numerous legislative victories that will benefit American families, including our country’s biggest investment in infrastructure. This $1.2 trillion in funding is a once-in-a-generation investment in our roads, bridges, transit, rail, ports, airports, broadband, drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. The completion of this important transit line, along with the construction of this unique veteran community in the heart of West Los Angeles show that this administration and this Congress puts people over politics.”
