Culver City to Spotlight Local Musicians on August 20th

As part of the #ChooseCulverCity campaign, City of Culver City is spotlighting local musicians to enhance economic recovery efforts, enrich commercial corridors, and support neighborhood businesses.

The first Love Local music activation will take place in the Culver City Arts District on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 3 PM – 6 PM.  Enjoy country music and light 70’s sounds from local bands Doug Gochman and the Desperate Measures and groove to indie rock with The Black Heartthrobs.  Both bands will be performing along the Helms Avenue Walk - the Pedestrian Plaza on Helms Avenue.  In addition to specials and promotions throughout the Arts District, The Helms Bakery District will also be offering several Summer Love Local activities including games, crafts and more!

Doug Gochman and the Desperate Measures - 3:00 PM - 4:15 PM

Doug Gochman is a Culver City based musician, performing Classic Country with his band, The Desperate Measures. From Jonny Cash, to Merle Haggard, Allman Brothers and Glen Campbell, the band brings back days gone by, but fondly remembered.

The Black Heartthrobs - 4:45 PM - 6:00 PM

The Black Heartthrobs are a four-piece melodic garage rock band from Culver City. Punk bassist for Osker (Epitaph records), David Benitez switched to vocals/guitar and is joined by Jane Greely on drums, Mark Yates on bass, and Diana Salier on guitar. David has co-written and studied songwriting from 70’s power-pop icons Peter Case (The Plimsouls) and Berton Averre (The Knack).  The band is touring the west coast this September in support of their new album Back to Zero.

Save the Dates!

Additional Love Local events will occur in Downtown Culver City on Saturday, September 10, 2022 and on West Washington Boulevard (between Centinela Avenue and Wade Street) on Saturday, October 15, 2022.  More details and musician line-ups will be announced soon!
