Brentwood School issued the following announcement on May 20.
Every year, 3rd Grade has a Bagel Sale to raise money for international charities that help people and animals around the world. In the 3rd Grade Service Learning Program, the students are able to raise awareness to help support global issues they are passionate about in connection with their year-long theme of traveling the seven continents.
In the past couple of weeks, the 3rd graders put thoughtful consideration into the most pressing current global issues. After considering many diverse social issues, they decided, as a class, they were most passionate about food insecurity, equal access to healthcare, gender equality, and animal rights. After learning about different nonprofits in each of these categories, the students voted on their favorite 3: World Central Kitchen, PATH, and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. World Central Kitchen brings healthy meals to people in times of emergency. PATH brings healthcare, like medicine and doctors, to people around the world. Lastly, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust works to protect and help wildlife, like helping orphaned African elephants get healthy and back into the wild.
The Bagel Sale will take place at morning carpool and outside the Arts & Athletics building beginning Monday, May 23-Friday, May 27. Third Grade will sell a variety of bagels on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday starting at 7:30 a.m.and ending at 8:15 a.m. and on Wednesday starting at 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The bagels are $2.00/each, cash only (including an optional small cream cheese). Every day, there will be plain, gluten free plain, cinnamon raisin, pretzel, and poppy seed bagels for sale. As a fun treat, there will be cinnamon sugar bagels on Wednesday and chocolate chip bagels on Friday, too!
Thank you for your enthusiasm and support. Remember you can buy a bagel or a dozen every day of the week!
