UCLA’s inaugural Bruin Giving Day was held over two days, April 29–30, and was marked by strong participation from students, alumni, and staff who served as ambassadors to engage prospective donors. The event encouraged a sense of community and support for the university through activities such as trivia games and giving challenges.
The effort resulted in nearly 4,000 donations supporting scholarships, fellowships, student organizations, health research, and more. Over 60% of these contributions were $100 or less. Lucy Farnham, a recent graduate with a B.S. in cognitive science, emceed the event and expressed enthusiasm about the experience: “Riding on the golf cart…I don’t know if there’s a better way to spend a beautiful day on campus.”
Donors hailed from 17 countries besides the United States, with one alumnus contributing from Bangkok. Alumni made up more than 40% of donors and participated actively in various challenges that raised significant funds.
Stacy Rauch from UCLA remarked on the success of the initiative: “The enthusiasm of our donors is inspiring…It was terrific to see so many people accept the challenge.” The fundraising efforts included multiple schools and units within UCLA promoting various funds.
Chancellor Julio Frenk expressed gratitude via video message to challenge sponsors: “Your challenge gifts were the catalysts that inspired others to join in.” Laura Lavado Parker noted that despite economic challenges this year, supporters demonstrated significant commitment: “There is so much love for UCLA…Private support will continue to play an important role.”
