The UCLA women’s tennis team is set to face Texas A&M in the NCAA Championship super-regional on Friday. The match will take place at Mitchell Tennis Center, with the first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. PT. UCLA, holding an 18-8 record, recently defeated Vanderbilt 4-3 in Nashville, Tennessee. Meanwhile, Texas A&M, with a 27-3 record, secured their spot by beating UC Santa Barbara 4-1 at home.

UCLA has consistently qualified for the NCAA Championships since its inception, marking its 43rd consecutive appearance this year. Head coach Stella Sampras Webster has led the team to two NCAA titles in 2008 and 2014. Under her guidance, UCLA’s all-time record in NCAA play stands at 101-40.
In previous encounters against Texas A&M, UCLA leads the series 3-1 and is tied 1-1 in NCAA Tournament meetings. The most recent matchup saw UCLA win 4-0 at Los Angeles Tennis Center on January 25, 2021.
UCLA advanced from the Nashville regional after a victory over Vanderbilt. The Bruins initially dominated Harvard with a 4-0 win before overcoming Vanderbilt in a closely contested match. Ahmani Guichard played a crucial role by securing the deciding point after coming back from a deficit.
As of May 1st rankings, UCLA is ranked No. 17 as a team. In singles rankings, Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer is No. 31, Kate Fakih No. 39, Elise Wagle No. 62, and Kimmi Hance No. 93. In doubles rankings, Olivia Center/Kate Fakih are No.11 and Kimmi Hance/Elise Wagle are No.14.
Three Bruins received Big Ten year-end awards on April 23: Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer was named to the All-Big Ten First Team; Kate Fakih and Kimmi Hance were selected for the Second Team; Fakih was also chosen unanimously for the All-Freshman Team while Hance received recognition as Sportsmanship Honoree.
Former player Ena Shibahara has excelled professionally in doubles tournaments since her time at UCLA (2016-2018). She achieved her career-high singles ranking of No.132 in late December last year and won her first Grand Slam championship alongside Wesley Koolhof at Roland-Garros mixed doubles event in June of last year.
