UCLA Women’s Basketball has announced the addition of Swedish guard Christina Karamouzi to their team. The news was shared by Cori Close, The Michael Price Family UCLA Women’s Head Basketball Coach, on Tuesday.
Coach Close expressed enthusiasm about Karamouzi’s potential impact on the team. “Christina has got a passion for making winning plays and making people better,” she said. “If she needs to dive on the floor for an extra possession, she’s going to do that. If she needs to come alongside a teammate who’s struggling, she’s going to do that. If she needs to set a great screen, she’s going to do that. If she needs to hit a big-time three, she’s going to do that.”
Karamouzi recently played for Sweden at the Scania Cup G19 competition, where her team Fryshuset Basket secured fifth place with a 4-2 record among 12 teams from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. She averaged 8.8 points per game in five matches during the tournament. Her previous experience includes participation in the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship Division B tournament in 2022 with Sweden’s youth national team.
“Christina is a person who really understands winning culture, and she’s just a great human being that people are going to enjoy getting to know,” Close added. “We feel like we got an absolute steal this late in the game to have Christina join our program. She’s going to be a great addition to the Bruin family.”
Karamouzi joins UCLA following their remarkable 2024-25 season when they achieved their first-ever No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and reached the NCAA Final Four as the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 Women’s March Madness tournament.
