UCLA women’s water polo defeats Harvard 15-4 in non-conference match

The UCLA women’s water polo team defeated Harvard 15-4 in a non-conference game at Spieker Aquatics Center on March 21. The Bruins, ranked second nationally, improved their record to 16-2 and remain undefeated against the Crimson.

This win is significant as it maintains UCLA’s perfect record against Harvard and demonstrates the team’s strong performance this season. The Bruins scored the first five goals of the match and led throughout, showcasing both offensive depth and defensive strength.

Bia Mantellato led UCLA with three goals, while Taylor Smith, Emma Lineback, and Lily Gess each contributed two goals. Lauren Steele returned as goalkeeper after missing three games, making four saves in the first half. Joey Niz played in the second half with two saves. For Harvard, Niki Piovan scored three goals and Orli Cooper made five saves.

UCLA dominated early by winning the first period 7-1 with contributions from multiple players. The team continued to build its lead through balanced scoring in each quarter. Redshirt freshman Ryan Chalupnik made her collegiate debut in the fourth quarter and scored her first goal for UCLA.

Looking ahead, UCLA will continue its homestand on March 28 against Arizona State at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.
