Alfee Reft, head coach of the UCLA Bruins women’s volleyball team, is leaving the program after three seasons to pursue professional opportunities outside collegiate coaching. During his tenure, Reft led the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021 and compiled a 51-40 overall record.
Reft expressed gratitude for his time at UCLA. “I would like to thank UCLA, specifically Martin Jarmond and Kenny Donaldson for the opportunity they gave me to be a part of this tremendous community, the staff and people that make this place so special, and most importantly, to the athletes that I have had the privilege to battle with day in and day out while in Westwood,” Reft said. “After heavy deliberation, I have decided to focus on myself and my family with opportunities outside of collegiate coaching. I will forever be grateful for my time here at UCLA and wish only the best for this program moving forward.”
In 2025, under Reft’s leadership, UCLA achieved 19 wins—the highest during his term—and recorded victories over ranked teams such as Minnesota, USC, and defending national champion Penn State. The Bruins finished their Big Ten campaign tied for sixth place with a 12-8 record and secured a first-round win against Georgia Tech in the NCAA Tournament.
Martin Jarmond, Director of Athletics at UCLA, commented on Reft’s departure: “We would like to thank Alfee for his leadership of the women’s volleyball program during his three seasons at UCLA. He led the program into its new era in the Big Ten, building a strong and positive culture among student-athletes, coaches, and staff. His on-court leadership has elevated our women’s volleyball program. We are extremely grateful for all he has contributed to the UCLA community, and we extend our very best wishes to him and his family in his future endeavors.”
Several players received recognition following the 2025 season. Lola Schumacher, Marianna Singletary, and Cheridyn Leverette were named AVCA All-Pacific Region honorees; Schumacher and Singletary made the first team while Leverette earned Honorable Mention. All three also received All-Big Ten First Team honors.
Reft’s initial season in 2023 saw an 18-12 record with notable wins against top-25 opponents Washington State and USC. Anna Dodson became Reft’s first All-American as an Honorable Mention selection.
