The UCLA women’s tennis team, ranked No. 17 nationally, is set to host two home matches at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins (3-2) will face San Diego (3-3) on Saturday, February 14 at 12 p.m. PT, followed by a newly scheduled match against LMU (4-2) on Tuesday, February 17 at 1 p.m. Fans can follow live scoring and streaming for both matches via the UCLA Athletics website at https://uclabruins.com/sports/2020/1/13/ucla-tennis-live-stats-w.

UCLA has historically performed well against both upcoming opponents. The Bruins hold an 18-0 all-time record against San Diego, with their most recent meeting resulting in a 7-0 victory on February 13, 2021. Against LMU, UCLA leads the series 29-1 and last won by a score of 7-0 on January 21, 2025.

In their previous outings, UCLA split matches against two top-25 teams in Northern California. The Bruins lost to No. 16 California but rebounded with a shutout win over No. 11 Stanford. Mayu Crossley secured singles victories in both matches and contributed to winning the doubles point alongside Kayla Chung against Stanford after overcoming an early deficit.

Currently, three Bruins are featured in the national singles rankings: Mayu Crossley at No. 37—a career high—Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer at No. 79, and Kate Fakih at No. 119 as of February 4. In doubles, Olivia Center and Kate Fakih are ranked No. 64.

Mayu Crossley recently received both Big Ten Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors for her performance during the team’s Northern California trip. “She started by beating this past fall’s NCAA singles runner-up, ninth-ranked Berta Passola Folch of Cal, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0,” according to the release. “The win avenged a 6-1, 6-1 result Passola Folch posted over Crossley during the individual tournament.” Crossley also played a key role in securing points during UCLA’s win over Stanford.

During the fall season, Ahmani Guichard led UCLA with six singles wins and five doubles victories while freshman Mayu Crossley qualified for the NCAA Championship singles tournament by reaching the ITA West Sectional Championships semifinal round.

Returning players include Kate Fakih and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer—each with more than fifty combined singles and doubles wins from last season—as well as Ahmani Guichard and Bianca Fernandez who have been consistent contributors to dual-match results.

Newcomers for this season are freshmen Kayla Chung from Stanton, California; Mayu Crossley from Tokyo; and Rona Rugara from Johannesburg.

Former Bruin Ena Shibahara continues her professional career success in doubles tournaments worldwide since playing for UCLA in the late 2010s.

Head coach Stella Sampras Webster marks her thirtieth season leading UCLA women’s tennis this year with an overall record of 545-203 (.729). She has guided teams to two NCAA championships—in 2014 and 2008—and three conference titles: 2024, 2021, and 2008. Sampras Webster’s teams have finished among the nation’s top ten twenty-three times in twenty-eight completed seasons.
