The UCLA women’s tennis team defeated Illinois 4-0 in a Big Ten Conference match at Atkins Tennis Center, according to an April 10 announcement. The win marks the start of UCLA’s final regular-season road trip.
This result is significant as it helps UCLA maintain its strong position within the conference, with a record now standing at 12-6 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten play. For Illinois, the loss brings their record to 9-11 overall and 5-5 in conference matches.
Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer secured the clinching point for UCLA after winning her singles match against McKenna Schaefbauer in three sets. Mayu Crossley and Kate Fakih also won their singles matches for the Bruins. Three other singles matches were left unfinished as UCLA reached four points first.
In doubles competition, Kayla Chung and Ahmani Guichard won their match without dropping a game, while Olivia Center and Fakih earned another doubles victory on Court 1. The pair of Center and Fakih has now clinched five doubles points for the team this season.
Crossley continued her strong performance by extending her straight-set winning streak to seven matches with a win over Kimiko Cooper. Fakih also notched two wins during the day after quickly defeating Ariel Madatali on Court 3.
Looking ahead, UCLA will visit Combe Tennis Center in Evanston for a matchup against Northwestern. The next contest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
