The UCLA women’s volleyball team concluded its regular season with a five-set victory over Michigan State at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. The set scores were 17-25, 25-14, 25-23, 18-25, and 15-9.
With this win, UCLA finished the season with an 18-12 overall record and a 12-8 mark in Big Ten play. The Bruins have now secured six five-set wins this season and ended their schedule by winning four of their last five matches. Their performance marks the most wins for the program since head coach Alfee Reft’s first year in 2023, when they also recorded an 18-12 record.
Senior outside hitter Cheridyn Leverette led the team with 17 kills and contributed five digs defensively. Eliana Urzua added 13 kills and nine digs, while Marianna Singletary reached double digits as well with 12 kills and five blocks. Setter Kate Duffey registered her second consecutive match with at least 50 assists, and Lola Schumacher surpassed the 20-dig mark once again.
Brooklyn Briscoe had nine kills on a .353 hitting percentage along with five total blocks and one solo block.
In the decisive fifth set, Michigan State briefly led after a successful challenge made it 4-3. Kiki Horne entered for UCLA and helped spark a three-point run that put the Bruins ahead at the switch. Kat Lutz delivered two service aces during this stretch. UCLA maintained momentum to close out the match on a final four-point run.
Throughout the contest, both teams exchanged leads across all sets. Michigan State controlled much of the first set before UCLA responded in the second by winning 18 of the final 24 points while hitting .462 as a team. The third set saw back-and-forth rallies until Leverette and Singletary combined for key plays to secure it for UCLA. Michigan State forced a fifth set by taking control late in the fourth frame.
UCLA will await its postseason placement during the NCAA Tournament selection show scheduled for Sunday, November 30 at 3 p.m. PT.
