UCLA’s women’s volleyball team, ranked No. 25, lost to Oregon in three straight sets on Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion. The set scores were 19-25, 19-25, and 23-25.
The Bruins now hold an overall record of 11-8 and a conference record of 5-4 in the Big Ten. UCLA managed a .212 hitting percentage for the match but could not keep up with Oregon’s offense, which hit .327 as a team.
Oregon had three players reach double-digit kills: Alanah Clemente and Valentina Vaulet each had 13 kills, while Sophia Meyers added 10. For UCLA, Cheridyn Leverette led with 12 kills and five digs. Marianna Singletary and Eliana Urzua each contributed six kills; Brooklyn Briscoe and Anastasija Ivkovic recorded five apiece. Libero Lola Schumacher finished with 14 digs and three assists.
In the first set, Oregon took an early lead before UCLA responded with several runs to go ahead 10-8 and later held a slight edge at the media timeout. However, Oregon regained control late in the set to win it after scoring five consecutive points.
The second set saw Oregon maintain momentum by starting strong and building their lead to 13-8. Despite efforts from Leverette and Ivkovic, UCLA could not overcome Oregon’s efficient attack.
During the third set, UCLA led early but was overtaken after Oregon tied the score at 15-all. Although Leverette helped push UCLA ahead late in the set, Oregon closed out the match by winning four of the last five points.
UCLA will next play Maryland at home on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m., with national coverage scheduled on Big Ten Network.
