Sophomore Maye Huang shot a one-under-par 70, recording a bogey-free, two-under front nine. Huang finished with three birdies and one bogey, but double bogeyed the 10th hole, which was the most challenging for the field with an average score of 0.6 strokes over par.
Senior Meghan Royal also carded a one-under-par 70, going three under over her final eight holes. Royal’s two-under 34 on the back nine tied for the lowest score among all individuals on that stretch.
Huang and Royal are among only 22 players in the 100-player field to finish under par on Friday. Both are tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard.
Freshman Kacey Ly finished at +1, 72, after starting her round with a double bogey on the first hole but recovering to play two under over her final 11 holes. Ly recorded five birdies, the most among UCLA players.
