The UCLA women’s golf team is set to participate in the Windy City Collegiate Classic for the third consecutive year. The tournament will take place at Glen View Club in Golf, Illinois, beginning Monday, September 29. The event spans two days and features 54 holes of stroke play, with two rounds scheduled for Monday and one round on Tuesday.
UCLA previously achieved its first win under head coach Alicia Um Holmes at this tournament in 2023, tying a program record with a score of -32 (838) over 54 holes. That year, three Bruins finished in the top ten, including Meghan Royal, who was runner-up with a score of -9 (207).
Reflecting on the upcoming event, head coach Alicia Um Holmes said: “After a few weeks at home, our spirits are high to travel to our second event of the season. Glen View Club is a wonderful venue and we’re excited to head back to the site of our team’s first win at the Windy City. We have almost an entirely different roster than our last go around, save Meghan, so it will be a fresh take for this squad. Similar to the team that won in 2023, this group of players consists of great ball strikers so I believe this course will suit their games.”
The lineup representing UCLA includes Angela Liu, Jenny Lee, Meghan Royal, Maye Huang and Kacey Ly.
This year’s field features several ranked teams according to the September 26 WGCA Coaches Poll: Northwestern (9), Arizona State (17; individuals only), Duke (21), Stanford (1; individuals only), Virginia (19), as well as Augusta, Columbia, Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan State, Purdue and SMU.
Weather forecasts predict sunny skies with temperatures ranging from the high 70s to low 80s. The course will play as a par-72 over 6,368 yards.
In world amateur rankings as of September 27: Angela Liu stands at No. 184; Meghan Royal at No. 491; Maye Huang at No. 531; Kacey Ly at No. 786; and GaEun Athena Yoo at No. 1053.
During the previous season (2024-25), UCLA reached its 35th NCAA Championships appearance after finishing seventh in its inaugural Big Ten Championship and qualifying for nationals with a .500 record (65-64-1). Key performances earlier in spring helped secure postseason qualification—including winning the Bruin Wave Invitational in February and placing fourth at the PING/ASU Invitational in March.
Angela Liu led UCLA with an average score of 73.28 across eight tournaments during her freshman year. She recorded four top-20 finishes and two top-10 finishes out of seven starts—leading her team in four events including both NCAA Regionals (+1; eighth place) and NCAA Championships (+2; tied for twenty-fourth).
The current roster includes Maye Huang (Sophomore), Jenny Lee (Sophomore), Angela Liu (Sophomore), Kacey Ly (Freshman), Meghan Royal (Senior), Jennifer Seo (Junior), Zoe Sprecher (Freshman) and GaEun Athena Yoo (Freshman).
