The UCLA women’s golf team, ranked No. 25 nationally, will begin its 2025-26 season at the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament in Mishima, Japan. The event takes place from September 3 to September 5 at the Grand Fields Country Club and includes universities from various countries.
Head coach Alicia Um Holmes, now in her third year leading the Bruins, commented on the team’s preparation and excitement for the international tournament. “Our Bruins are feeling good and excited to kick off our season at the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament,” Holmes said. “The organizers graciously provided us with three individual spots, and we are traveling our entire roster. We’ve spent the last few days in Tokyo acclimating to the time zone while experiencing the Japanese culture. It’s been a great way for our girls to bond together and make once-in-a-lifetime memories.”
This is UCLA’s first international appearance since winning the Battle at the Beach in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, in 2017. That victory was led by then-junior Lilia Vu.
The Bruins’ lineup for this tournament includes Meghan Royal, Angela Liu, Maye Huang, Kacey Ly, and GaEun Athena Yoo. Jennifer Seo, Zoe Sprecher, and Jenny Lee will compete as individuals.
Other teams participating include Hawai’i, SMU, Team Euro, Team South Korea, Chinese Taipei National Sports University, Meiji University, Nihon University, Hosei University, Tohoku University, and Fukui University of Technology.
The course is set as a par-71 over 6,164 yards. Weather forecasts predict highs between the low 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit with cloudy skies and possible rain.
As of September 1, 2025 World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Angela Liu is ranked 167th; Meghan Royal is 420th; Maye Huang is 607th; Kacey Ly is 670th; GaEun Athena Yoo is 904th.
During the previous season (2024-25), UCLA reached its 35th NCAA Championships after placing seventh at their first Big Ten Championship and securing a .500 winning percentage (65-64-1). The team advanced through strong performances at regionals and key finishes earlier in spring events such as winning the Bruin Wave Invitational in February and placing fourth at the PING/ASU Invitational.
Angela Liu led UCLA last season with a scoring average of 73.28 across eight stroke play tournaments. She recorded four top-20 finishes and two top-10s as a freshman.
