The University of California, Los Angeles women’s rowing team finished a competitive weekend on Mar. 29 with a first-place victory in the Novice 8+ race at the 2026 San Diego Crew Classic.
The event saw UCLA’s teams competing against other collegiate crews across several categories. The Bruins secured their lane assignments after preliminary heats on Saturday, with both the first and second varsity eight boats placing second in their respective heats to advance to Sunday’s grand finals. Other UCLA boats placed fourth or fifth during Saturday’s races.
On Sunday, UCLA’s top varsity eight finished fourth in the Jessop-Whittier Cup/Cal Cup Collegiate Invitational final. The Bruins’ varsity four and second varsity eight also took part in grand finals for their events, each finishing fourth. The highlight of the day came when UCLA’s Novice 8+ crew won its race for the Laurel Korholz Perpetual Trophy by crossing the finish line two seconds ahead of rival USC with a time of 7:26.050.
Other results included a fifth-place finish for UCLA in the Open 8+ Carley Copley Cup and strong efforts from both second and third varsity fours, which placed fourth and fifth respectively in their final race. Detailed results from both days show consistent performances across all events entered by UCLA crews.
Lineups for each boat were provided following the regatta, listing coxswains and rowers for every shell that competed throughout the weekend.
