The University of California, Los Angeles women’s rowing team recorded several top finishes at the Big Ten Invitational in Sacramento, according to an April 19 release from UCLA Athletics.
The competition saw the Bruins excel across multiple events over two days of racing. On Sunday morning, UCLA secured first place in the First Varsity Eight (1V8+), First Varsity Four (1V4+), and Second Varsity Four (2V4+) races. The team also finished second in the Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) before sweeping the final three races: Fourth Varsity Eight (4V8+), Third Varsity Four (3V4+), and Third Varsity Eight (3V8+).
During Saturday’s opening session, UCLA reached the podium in all seven races. In a close contest, Ohio State edged out UCLA by just six tenths of a second in the Second Varsity Eight event. However, fatigue became a factor during Saturday afternoon’s session as the Bruins placed fourth in five out of seven flights. Despite this challenge, both the First and Fourth Varsity Eights returned to podium positions with third- and second-place finishes respectively.
Sunday’s results marked a strong finish for UCLA as they captured first place across most events during Session III. These outcomes reflect consistent performances throughout all sessions at one of collegiate rowing’s prominent invitational meets.
Looking ahead, these results position UCLA as a competitive force within collegiate women’s rowing this season.
