The University of California, Los Angeles women’s golf team finished the opening round of the PING/ASU Invitational in fifth place with a score of 3-under 285 on Mar. 23 at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix.
The event saw UCLA as one of five teams to complete the first round under par. The University of Southern California leads the tournament by eight strokes over Baylor with a score of 17-under. USC freshman Jasmine Koo currently tops the individual leaderboard after shooting a 6-under-par 66, holding a one-shot lead over her competitors.
Junior Jennifer Seo led UCLA’s performance, recording a career-low round of 5-under-par 67. Seo is tied for second place entering Tuesday’s second round. Her play included seven birdies and no bogeys after starting her first three holes at two-over par, marking her fourth under-par score this season and her second time scoring in the sixties.
Sophomore Jen Lee also contributed to UCLA’s standing by finishing in the top ten with a score of two-under-par 70. Freshman Kacey Ly and senior Meghan Royal both posted rounds of two-over-par 74, tying them for thirty-seventh place individually.
Second-round play for UCLA is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning at seven o’clock Pacific Time.
