The UCLA women’s golf team began their 2026 season with a strong performance at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, held at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, California. The Bruins, ranked No. 23 nationally, finished the first round in first place after posting a team score of 282, two strokes under par.
UCLA was the only team among the 17 participating programs to finish under par on the opening day. They lead No. 7 Texas A&M by four shots, as Texas A&M recorded a score of 286 (+2).
Four UCLA golfers are currently in the top ten individually. Jenny Lee is in third place out of 88 competitors after shooting a two-under-par 69. She is two strokes behind Kansas’ Kinslea Jones, who leads at four under par. Lee overcame a slow start—she was three over par through her first seven holes—by playing her final eleven holes at five under par, including four consecutive birdies from holes 15 through 18.
Angela Liu, Meghan Royal and GaEun Athena Yoo each carded even-par rounds of 71 and are tied for seventh place.
The second round will begin Monday at 9 a.m. Pacific Time on holes one and ten.
