The UCLA women’s golf team, ranked No. 23, was defeated by No. 2 USC with a score of 3.5-1.5 in the fourth annual Battle of LA held at Rancho La Quinta Country Club on Friday.
Freshman GaEun Athena Yoo secured UCLA’s only win, beating USC’s Bailey Shoemaker by a margin of 5&4. Another freshman, Kacey Ly, earned half a point for the Bruins after tying her match against Catherine Park.
The scoring system awarded one point for each match victory and half a point for tied matches after 18 holes. The team with the most points after one round was declared the winner.
USC claimed three match victories: Elise Lee over Jenny Lee (4&3), Sarah Hammett over Maye Huang (2&1), and Kylie Chong over Jennifer Seo (3&2). The full results are listed below:

Following this event, UCLA will compete again at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge hosted at Palos Verdes Golf Club from February 1 to February 3.
Looking at previous years’ results in the Battle of LA series:
– In both the current year and last year, USC won by a score of 3.5-1.5.
– In 2024 and 2023, UCLA had emerged victorious with scores of 4-1 and 8.5-3.5 respectively.
