The University of California, Los Angeles women’s beach volleyball team won both of its matches at the East Meets West Invitational on March 14, defeating No. 5 Texas and Florida International University by identical scores of 5-0 in Manhattan Beach, California.
These victories are significant as they reinforce UCLA’s top ranking and demonstrate the team’s depth and resilience across all pairs. The Bruins improved their record to 15-2 for the season after these wins.
Against Texas, UCLA secured two comeback victories. Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden rallied from a set down to defeat Anna Pavelkova and Kacka Pavelkova, while Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck saved multiple match points before winning their third set against Chloe Charles and Macey Butler. Kenzie Brower and Mallory LaBreche clinched the overall win with a straight-set victory on court five. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd also contributed with a win over Texas’s top pair, while Alexa Fernandez and Harper Cooper closed out the sweep.
In their second match of the day, UCLA dominated FIU by winning all five courts without dropping a set. LaBreche paired with Taylor Ford for an early win on court four, followed by Mathews and Alden on court two. Williamson teamed up with Fernandez to clinch the match on court three. Perez and Boyd extended their personal win streak to 13 matches with another victory on court one, while Cassie Dodd and Adelina Okazaki completed the sweep on court five.
The Bruins will next compete at the Texas Invitational scheduled for March 27-28.
