The University of California, Los Angeles, women’s beach volleyball team defeated CSU Bakersfield 5-0 on Apr. 14 at Mapes Beach. The Bruins did not lose a set in the match, which marked their Senior Day and the final home game of the regular season.
The win highlights UCLA’s dominance at home this season, as they finished with a perfect 13-0 record on their own sand. The victory also improves their overall record to 26-4.
UCLA secured early wins on courts four and two. Hannah Fleming and Alexa Fernandez won against Olivia Ostler and Emma Neville with scores of 21-16, 22-20. Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden, who were named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Pair of the Week, followed with a straight-set victory over Vivi Kaelin and Kendall Kaelin.
Ava Williamson and Adelina Okazaki clinched the overall win for UCLA by defeating Ella Ensign and Vianna Garcia in just 32 minutes on court three. Seniors played key roles throughout the day: Kenzie Brower paired with freshman Mallory LaBreche to secure another point, while Maggie Boyd scored the final point for UCLA alongside Sally Perez.
The Bruins will conclude their regular season schedule with an away dual against No. 3 USC at noon on Thursday.
