After a weather delay in Honolulu, the UCLA Bruins women’s beach volleyball team secured a 3-1 win over USC at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic. The match was held at Queen’s Beach and resulted in handing USC its first loss of the season. UCLA’s scheduled match against California was canceled due to weather conditions.

UCLA won the first set on three different courts and finished those matches in straight sets. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd earned the opening point for UCLA by defeating Ashley Pater and Kennedy Coakley with scores of 21-11 and 21-18. Kaley Matthews and Ensley Alden followed up with a win over Alana Embry and Madison Goellner, finishing 21-13, 21-14.

USC responded by taking court 2, as Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood beat Alexa Fernandez and Cassie Dodd in two close sets, 22-20, 21-18. Ava Williamson and Harper Cooper then clinched the overall victory for UCLA on court 4 with a 21-15, 21-14 result against Quincy Stephens and Kaileigh Truslow. This marked their fifth win of the weekend.

On court 5, Jesse Dueck and Mallory LaBreche were leading their third set when the Bruins secured enough points for an overall team victory.

The next event for UCLA will be hosting the Battle for LA tournament at Mapes Beach on February 27–28. Their opening match is scheduled against Boise State at 10 am on Friday.
