UCLA’s women’s basketball team secured an 82-67 win over Washington at home, continuing their strong performance this season. The victory improved the Bruins’ record to 26-1 overall and 16-0 in the Big Ten Conference.
This win matches UCLA’s highest number of conference victories in a single season since 2010-11. With the result, UCLA clinched at least a share of the conference title for the first time since sharing it with Oregon in 1998-99. The team has a chance to secure the title outright with a win against Wisconsin on Sunday.
Five UCLA players reached double digits in scoring: Lauren Betts led with 23 points, followed by Kneepkens (17), Rice (13), Jaquez (10), and Dugalić (10). Betts also recorded eight rebounds and two blocks. Kneepkens, Jaquez, and graduate student Charlisse Leger-Walker each added two steals.
After allowing Washington to score first, UCLA quickly took control of the game. Early plays included a turnaround jumper from Betts and defensive stops leading to turnovers by Washington. By the end of the first quarter, UCLA led 22-12.
Betts continued her strong play into the second quarter, scoring six consecutive points and helping build a lead that reached as high as 14 points. The Bruins maintained defensive pressure throughout the half and finished ahead 42-29 at halftime. At that point, Betts had scored a game-high 14 points.
In the third quarter, UCLA opened with tough defense resulting in another shot clock violation for Washington. On offense, consistent contributions from Betts and others helped extend their lead to 63-48 heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw continued teamwork from UCLA on both ends of the court. Notable plays included outside shooting from Kneepkens and efficient passing leading to scores inside by Jaquez and Rice.
Statistically, UCLA outperformed Washington in field goal percentage (53% to 44%), rebounding (37 to 20), second-chance points (21 to 2), blocks (4 to 0), and assists (24 to 17).
The Bruins will close out their regular season home schedule against Wisconsin at Pauley Pavilion on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. PT; coverage will be available on Peacock. The game will also serve as senior night for graduating members of the team.
