UCLA track & field splits squad between Tyson Invitational and Husky Classic

The UCLA track and field team is set to participate in two separate meets this week. Most of the athletes will compete at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, while a group of middle-distance and distance runners will travel to Seattle, Washington for the Husky Classic.

Both events are scheduled for Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14. The Tyson Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center, will include 50 teams from across the country. Alongside UCLA and Arkansas, other participating schools are Arizona, Florida, Kansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Stanford, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The Husky Classic will take place at Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle. Schools expected to compete there include Boston College, Cal Poly, Nebraska, Portland State, New Mexico, Oregon State, Penn State (also present at Tyson), Stanford and Utah. This marks UCLA’s second appearance at the University of Washington and third trip to Washington state during this indoor season.

At the Tyson Invitational on Friday for UCLA entries only (all times Pacific), events begin with men’s 60m hurdles prelims at 10:00 a.m., followed by women’s 60m hurdles prelims at 10:25 a.m., men’s pole vault at 11:00 a.m., men’s weight throw at 11:15 a.m., men’s and women’s hurdles finals shortly after noon along with long jump events. The afternoon includes men’s and women’s 400m races as well as championship rounds for women’s hurdles.

On Saturday in Fayetteville (all times Pacific), competition starts with women’s pole vault at 8:30 a.m., followed by triple jump events for both genders an hour later. Other scheduled events include women’s high jump championship and men’s shot put before relay races close out the day.

For those competing in Seattle’s Husky Classic on Friday (all times Pacific), Bruin entries start with women’s 3000m at 2:45 p.m., then progress through various distance races including relays into the evening. On Saturday starting from 10:30 a.m., events feature sprints like women’s and men’s 400m as well as multiple heats of mile runs and invitational sections for longer distances.
