Senior athletes from the UCLA track and field team achieved notable wins at two events over the weekend. The team participated in the UW Invite/Mile City meet in Seattle, Washington, and the Millrose Games in New York City, with only select members competing.
Michael Pinckney, a senior thrower from Queens, New York, won the men’s weight throw at the Millrose Games. This marks his third consecutive gold medal in that event for this season, with a top throw of 21.10 meters (69-2.75). His teammate Simon Skoumal finished sixth with a personal record of 19.26 meters (63-2.75).
At the UW Invite, junior Ailish Hawkins led UCLA’s women in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:32.97, while freshman Kaitlyn Arciaga paced the Bruins in the 800 meters at 2:07.35. Both set personal records and entered UCLA’s all-time indoor top-10 lists for their respective events.
Jack Falkowski, a redshirt freshman distance runner, was first out of 332 competitors to finish in the men’s seeded mile during Saturday’s “Mile City” portion of the meet. He recorded a personal best time of 4:01.52—ranking ninth on UCLA’s indoor history list for that event.
Two other Bruins also placed among the top fifteen in that race: freshman Arrin Sagiraju took fifth place at 4:02.25 and sophomore Everett Capelle finished fourteenth at 4:04.24.
For UCLA’s women’s team in the mile event, Kaho Cichon posted their fastest time by placing seventeenth with a finish of 4:49.81.
The Bruins are scheduled to compete next at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque on February 6-7.
