The UCLA Swimming and Diving team began the 2026 season with a quad meet at the Canyonview Aquatic Center, hosted by UC San Diego. The Bruins competed against No. 15 Wisconsin, Tulane, and UC San Diego, winning two out of three duals.
UCLA defeated Tulane with a score of 211-46 and UC San Diego 165-92 but fell to Wisconsin 146-111.
The meet started with the Bruins’ relay team—Rosie Murphy, Sarah Bennetts, Jada Duncan, and Anna Wetteland—finishing second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:35.29.
In individual events, Applejean Gwinn placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle. Jada Duncan secured first place in the 200 freestyle (1:46.28), while Murphy finished third (1:47.72). In the 100 backstroke, Claudia Yovanovich took second (53.44) and Fay Lustria was third (54.07).
Sarah Bennetts finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.23. Wetteland and Alexis Schaffer took first and second in the 50 freestyle, recording times of 23.12 and 23.27 respectively.
Duncan claimed her second win of the day in the 100 freestyle (48.81), followed by Wetteland in third place (50.24). The Bruins swept the podium in the 200 backstroke; Murphy won (1:54.01), Erica Jaffe was second (2:00.49), and Lustria edged out Sydney Niles from UC San Diego for third place by .02 seconds.
Bennetts earned another third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.73). Duncan achieved her third event win by taking first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.27.
Murphy continued her performance with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley (1:57.05).
In the final event—the 200 free relay—the UCLA squad of Josie Arbuckle, Gizem Guvenc, Fiona Schere, and Ava Lachey took first place with a time of 1:13.60; another Bruin relay team finished third.
Looking ahead, UCLA will host several events at Spieker Aquatic Center including the Bruin Diving Invitational from January 9 to January 11 as well as meets against Iowa on January 9 and a quad meet featuring Iowa, Utah, and UC Santa Barbara on January 10.
