The UCLA women’s swim and dive team competed against No. 7 ranked California in a dual meet at the Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday, with the Bruins falling to the Golden Bears by a score of 179-120.
Rosie Murphy stood out for UCLA, setting a new school record in the 200 backstroke and winning multiple events during the meet. In the opening event, the Bruins’ relay team—Claudia Yovanovich, Sarah Bennetts, Alexis Schaffer, and Gizem Guvenc—secured second place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.78.
Murphy placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.85. In the 100 backstroke, Yovanovich and Fay Lustria finished second and third respectively.
Freshman Duncan earned UCLA’s first individual win of the day in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.17, marking her second individual victory over the weekend. She later took second place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.86.
Murphy then broke her own school record in the 200 backstroke by finishing first with a time of 1:51.59, more than six seconds ahead of her competitors. Erica Jaffe finished second for UCLA in that event.
Ashley Kolessar secured third place for UCLA in the 500 freestyle, completing it in 4:52.15.
Duncan added another top-three finish by taking second place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.63.
Murphy claimed her second individual win by finishing first in the final individual event—the 200 IM—with a time of 1:55.18, over three seconds ahead of her closest competitor.
The Bruins concluded their meet with another runner-up finish as Yovanovich, Duncan, Bennetts, and Anna Wetteland combined for second place in the 200 free relay at a time of 1:29.22.
UCLA will next compete against USC at home on Friday, January 30 at Spieker Aquatics Center.
