The UCLA softball team set a new program record with eight home runs in a single game during its 17-0 win over UC Riverside at Easton Stadium on Sunday. The victory completed a 5-0 opening weekend for the Bruins.

Five players contributed to the eight home runs, with senior Megan Grant becoming only the second player in UCLA history to hit three homers in one game, matching Monica Harrison’s achievement from 2009. Woolery hit two home runs, going back-to-back with Grant twice in the first and fourth innings. Woolery’s fourth-inning homer was the team’s eighth of the game, setting the new school record.

Grant hit two of her home runs in the first inning. Both Grant and Woolery notched their fifth and fourth career multi-homer games, respectively.

Freshmen Bri Alejandre and Jolyna Lamar also homered, as did sophomore Sofia Mujica. Alejandre has three home runs over her last two games, while Lamar recorded her first college hit, homer, and RBIs with a two-run shot in the first inning.

UCLA scored 10 runs against UC Riverside pitcher Lauren Mendez with just one out in the opening frame. Three Bruins—Grant, Woolery, and Alejandre—homered within their first five at-bats. The team finished with five home runs in the first inning alone—a mark tied for third-most in NCAA Division I history and a new program best.

The performance capped an offensive week where UCLA achieved five mercy-rule wins in as many games. The Bruins recorded their most-ever home runs (23), runs scored (68), and hits (58) for an opening week.

Eight different players homered at least once during this stretch, resulting in five separate multi-home run performances across five games.

These achievements follow a 2025 season where UCLA set records for mercy-rule victories (28) and finished with 101 total home runs—the second-highest single-season total for the program.

On Sunday against UC Riverside, four pitchers saw action: freshman Natalie Cable started and threw two scoreless innings; Brynne Nally, Sydney Somerndike, and Taylor Tinsley each pitched one relief inning without allowing any runners. Somerndike earned her first career win by striking out all three batters she faced in the fourth inning.

Freshman Jazmine Leyva made her debut as a pinch hitter for Alejandre in the bottom of the fourth inning and registered her first collegiate hit—a double to left field.

UCLA will next play at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida. Their tournament begins Friday, Feb. 13 against No. 24 Oklahoma State at noon PT followed by Missouri at 3 p.m., with all games available via ESPN platforms.
