The UCLA softball team delivered a record-setting performance Thursday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, defeating Auburn 23-1 at Big League Dream Sports Park in Cathedral City, California.

This win marks UCLA’s eighth victory of the season and their 23rd appearance at the tournament. The Bruins scored 23 runs, which is the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Their offensive output included 16 hits—nine for extra bases—and seven walks. The most significant scoring came during an 18-run third inning, tying for the second-most runs in a single frame in NCAA Division I Softball history and marking the highest total since 2021.

UCLA’s third-inning surge saw them bat around twice, with much of the damage occurring after two outs. Key contributors included Megan Grant, Jordan Woolery, and Kaniya Bragg, each making three plate appearances during that inning. The Bruins produced 14 of their 18 runs with two outs.

Redshirt junior Ramsey Suarez achieved her first career triple in the second inning and added a two-RBI double plus a three-run homer in the third. Jordan Woolery collected all six of her RBIs during that same inning through a two-RBI double and her fourth career grand slam.

Suarez finished with nine total bases and seven RBIs on a 3-for-4 night at the plate; her nine total bases tie for seventh-most by a Bruin in one game. Woolery followed closely behind with eight total bases from her grand slam and two doubles. Freshman Bri Alejandre scored four times—a mark tied for third-most by any Bruin in one contest—after reaching base on two hits, a walk, and an error.

Four players recorded three hits: Suarez, Woolery, Bragg, and Aleena Garcia.

Senior pitcher Taylor Tinsley started for UCLA, striking out two of Auburn’s first batters and allowing only three baserunners over three innings to earn her fifth win of the season while throwing just 49 pitches (34 strikes). Freshman Natalie Cable pitched two innings in relief; she struck out two batters but gave up Auburn’s only run—a solo home run by Delaney Aumua in the fifth inning.

Seven of UCLA’s eight wins this year have come via mercy rule. Last season they set a program record with 28 mercy-rule victories.

UCLA will play again Friday against Nevada at 3:30 p.m. PT and No. 20 Duke at 6 p.m. PT as part of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
