The University of California, Los Angeles softball team set several single-season team and individual records during its doubleheader victories against California at Easton Stadium on April 18.
These achievements highlight a strong season for the Bruins, who improved their record to 41-5 after defeating the Golden Bears by scores of 13-5 and 9-1, both games ending in five innings. Senior Jordan Woolery led UCLA’s performance with six hits in seven at-bats, four home runs, ten runs batted in (RBIs), and five runs scored across the two games.
Woolery broke Stacey Nuveman’s longstanding RBI record with her first home run of the day, bringing her season total to 93 RBIs. She went on to reach the century mark for RBIs this season, becoming only the fifth player in NCAA Division I history to do so. Woolery also increased her home run tally to thirty and joined teammate Megan Grant as part of a historic duo—the first time two teammates have each hit thirty home runs in a single NCAA Division I season. “Woolery is just the second player in NCAA Division I history to record at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs in the same season,” according to information released by UCLA Athletics.
Sophomore Rylee Slimp broke another program milestone by scoring her seventy-sixth run of the year, surpassing Natasha Watley’s previous record. Slimp finished with four hits and four runs scored during Saturday’s games.
UCLA as a team now leads all programs nationally with one hundred fifty-four home runs this season. The Bruins also set new program records for total bases (1,052) and runs scored (520). Senior Taylor Tinsley contributed a complete-game victory from the pitching circle during Game Two.
The day’s events concluded with seniors Grant, Tinsley, and Woolery receiving Golden Tickets from Athletes Unlimited Softball League—signifying their guaranteed selection for the upcoming league draft. The Bruins are scheduled next to play Washington from April 24–26.
