The University of California, Los Angeles, softball team defeated Loyola Marymount University 9-1 on March 11 at Easton Stadium, hitting six home runs in a game that ended by mercy rule.
The victory extends UCLA’s winning streak to 16 games and marks the team’s 14th run-rule win this season. The Bruins have now hit home runs in 17 consecutive games, with multiple homers in their last ten outings.
Five different UCLA players contributed to the home run tally. Kaniya Bragg recorded her second career two-home run game, while Rylee Slimp, Megan Grant, Jordan Woolery, and Sofia Mujica each added one homer. The six home runs tie for the fifth-most in a single game in program history. Earlier this season, UCLA set its record with eight homers against UC Riverside.
Freshman pitcher Natalie Cable earned her second complete-game victory of the season. Cable pitched five innings with three strikeouts and allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks. She retired the first six batters she faced and did not allow a runner into scoring position through the first three innings.
UCLA opened the game with back-to-back-to-back home runs from Grant, Woolery, and Bragg—the first time since 2022 that three Bruins have accomplished this feat consecutively. Mujica’s three-run homer gave UCLA an 8-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. LMU managed to score once but could not close the gap before Woolery delivered the game-ending RBI on a grounder that resulted in her NCAA-best 52nd RBI of the season.
Looking ahead, UCLA will host Michigan State at Easton Stadium for its second Big Ten Conference series of the season from March 13 to March 15. All games will be available for streaming on BigTenPlus.com.
