The University of California, Los Angeles softball team lost its series opener against Nebraska on March 27, ending a 22-game winning streak. The game took place at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, where UCLA was defeated by a score of 4-1.
This loss is significant as it marks the end of a lengthy run of victories for the Bruins. The team now holds a record of 28 wins and four losses overall and nine wins with one loss in Big Ten play.
UCLA managed only four hits during the game against Nebraska pitchers Alexis Jensen and Jordy Frahm. Megan Grant led the offense for UCLA by extending her hitting streak to 17 games and scoring the team’s only run after going one-for-three at bat. Freshman Bri Alejandre drove in Grant with an RBI single up the middle in the fourth inning.
Senior pitcher Taylor Tinsley started strong by holding Nebraska hitless through three innings but ultimately allowed four earned runs on five hits over six innings. She issued seven walks—a career high—while striking out seven batters. Tinsley escaped several early jams but gave up a go-ahead two-run home run to Hannah Camenzind in the fifth inning, followed by additional runs in the sixth from an RBI single and bases-loaded walk.
Nebraska improved its record to 25 wins and five losses overall, remaining undefeated in conference play at seven wins with no losses. Camenzind contributed three RBIs for Nebraska during this matchup.
