The UCLA softball team finished an undefeated weekend at the Judi Garman Classic with a 13-3 victory over Oregon State on Sunday. The game, played at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, marked the Bruins’ twelfth consecutive win and improved their season record to 13-3.
UCLA’s offense produced 11 hits and six walks during the five-inning contest, continuing a streak of scoring at least ten runs in each of their last six games. This run is a new program record, beginning with their win over Texas A&M on February 22.
Senior Megan Grant led the team with her third multi-home run game of the season and seventh of her career. She now leads all players nationally with 16 home runs this year. Over the course of the tournament, Grant reached base in 17 out of 22 plate appearances, recording six hits—including five home runs—nine walks, and two hit-by-pitches.
Sophomore Kaniya Bragg contributed three hits in as many at-bats, including a home run, while driving in two runs and scoring twice herself. Leadoff hitter Rylee Slimp also reached base three times and scored three runs.
UCLA scored in every inning against Oregon State. Bragg opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning, followed by Aleena Garcia’s sacrifice fly. In the second inning, Grant hit a two-run homer before Garcia added another RBI double.
The Bruins expanded their lead further in the fourth inning with RBIs from freshmen Bri Alejandre and Jolyna Lamar as well as redshirt junior Alexis Ramirez. The final runs came from additional home runs by Grant and Bragg in the fifth inning.
Pitcher Taylor Tinsley earned her ninth win of the season after providing 2.2 innings of relief work for UCLA. She entered during a critical situation in the third inning and recorded key outs to prevent further scoring by Oregon State. Tinsley allowed two runs later but maintained control through most of her appearance.
Brynne Nally started for UCLA, giving up one run over just more than two innings pitched.
UCLA will return to Easton Stadium next week to begin Big Ten Conference play against Wisconsin in a three-game series scheduled from March 6 to March 8.
