The UCLA softball team secured a 15-7 victory over Texas A&M in five innings on Sunday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, held at Big League Dreams Sports Complex in Cathedral City. This win marked the end of a perfect 6-0 weekend for the Bruins, who are ranked ninth nationally. During the tournament, UCLA also achieved wins against other top-ranked teams, including Duke and South Carolina.

UCLA recorded 11 hits, four home runs, and two doubles against three Texas A&M pitchers. Jordan Woolery and Kaniya Bragg each hit grand slams, while Ramsey Suarez and Alexis Ramirez also contributed home runs. The game coincided with associate head coach Lisa Fernandez’s birthday.

Savannah Grant reached base in all four plate appearances with an RBI single, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. She concluded the weekend with a .545 batting average (6-for-11), two home runs, two doubles, nine walks, and two hit-by-pitches.

Rylee Slimp matched a UCLA single-game record by being hit by pitches three times—a mark set previously by Katie Schroeder in 2012.

Texas A&M took an early lead by scoring five runs in the second inning. Natalie Cable started for UCLA but was relieved by Taylor Tinsley after allowing a hit and a walk. Tinsley recorded one out before giving up additional hits and issuing bases-loaded walks. Cable returned to finish the inning with a double play started by third baseman Bri Alejandre.

UCLA responded with six runs in their half of the second inning. Mia Phillips drove in two runs with a double; Slimp was then hit by a pitch before Grant walked to load the bases. Woolery followed with her second grand slam of the weekend to give UCLA its first lead at 6-5.

In the third inning, UCLA added eight more runs. After Suarez reached base and Ramirez homered to right field, Phillips singled again and Slimp was hit by another pitch. Grant delivered another RBI single before Woolery was hit to fill the bases once more. Bragg then cleared them with her first career grand slam.

This game marked the first time since April 21, 2025—against Ohio State—that UCLA had hit two grand slams in one game.

Suarez later added her third home run of the weekend during her second at-bat of the third inning.

Texas A&M managed to score twice in the fifth inning but could not close the gap further. In UCLA’s final turn at bat, Aleena Garcia ended the game with an RBI single that allowed pinch runner Jaella Ann Mercado to score after stealing second base.

Cable finished her outing pitching 4.2 innings with three strikeouts and four earned runs for her first career win over a top-25 opponent.

UCLA will next compete at the Judi Garman Classic at Cal State Fullerton from February 27 through March 1, facing East Texas A&M and Florida on Friday’s opening day.
