The UCLA softball team defeated Oregon 11-3 in a run-rule victory on May 3, salvaging its series against the Ducks and marking Senior Day at Easton Stadium.
The win highlights the performance of UCLA’s senior class, including Megan Grant, Taylor Tinsley, and Jordan Woolery. Grant reached base in all three plate appearances and scored twice. Woolery hit a two-run home run and drew two walks, while Tinsley earned her 26th win of the season with over two scoreless innings in relief.
UCLA hit four home runs during the game, tying Oklahoma for the national lead this season with a total of 173. Aleena Garcia, Sofia Mujica, and Rylee Slimp also contributed home runs. The Bruins established an early lead by scoring eight runs within the first two innings.
Oregon managed to respond with three runs in the third inning but could not overcome UCLA’s offense. Sophomore Brynne Nally started for UCLA with two scoreless innings before allowing three consecutive singles that led to Oregon’s first run. Sydney Somerndike relieved Nally but allowed inherited runners to score.
Woolery’s opposite-field homer marked her 33rd of the season; she now ranks third in NCAA Division I history with 106 RBIs this year.
Looking ahead, No. 3 seed UCLA will compete in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, May 7 at Maryland Softball Stadium against either Northwestern or Penn State.
