The University of California, Los Angeles softball team defeated Michigan State 10-0 on Mar. 13 to open their series at Easton Stadium.
The win marks UCLA’s seventh shutout of the season and extends their winning streak to 18 games. The Bruins, ranked No. 7 nationally, have now hit home runs in 18 consecutive games and recorded multiple home runs in each of their last ten contests.
Senior pitcher Taylor Tinsley led the effort with her second complete-game shutout in as many weeks. She struck out three batters and allowed only five baserunners on three hits and two walks. Tinsley improved her record to 13-2 with a 2.86 earned run average and currently ranks second nationally in wins.
Offensively, Kaniya Bragg, Megan Grant, Ramsey Suarez, and Jordan Woolery each hit home runs for UCLA. Grant’s home run was her NCAA-leading twentieth of the season, making her the fastest player in program history to reach that mark by doing so in just 26 games. Last season, she tied Stacey Nuveman for the same record but reached it after 43 games.
UCLA built an early lead with contributions from several players including Rylee Slimp, Bri Alejandre, Aleena Garcia, and Alexis Ramirez. The Bruins continued to add runs throughout the game with back-to-back home runs by Woolery and Bragg in the fourth inning.
Looking ahead, UCLA will aim for a second straight Big Ten Conference series win against Michigan State tomorrow evening.
