In recent play, UCLA went undefeated in four matches during the Battle for LA event held February 27–28 at Mapes Beach. The Bruins recorded wins over No. 3 Cal Poly (4-1), No. 11 Long Beach State (5-0), Boise State (4-1), and Pepperdine (5-0). During these matches, Harper Cooper and Ava Williamson maintained their unbeaten streaks for the season; both now stand at a perfect nine wins without defeat.
Senior Maggie Boyd achieved her milestone of reaching her 100th career victory after she and Sally Perez secured a straight-set win over Pepperdine. Boyd is now one of only eleven Bruins to reach this mark in program history.
Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd were recognized as both AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week and MPSF/Molten Pair of the Week following their undefeated run during the Battle for LA event. They notched victories over pairs from Cal Poly, Long Beach State, Boise State, and Pepperdine while playing on court one.
Harper Cooper has played successfully across courts three and four this season while junior transfer Ava Williamson has also contributed to an unbeaten start across different pairings.
The Bruins return seven starters from last year’s squad that reached the NCAA semifinals with an overall record of 32-7 in the previous season. Among them are Boyd and Perez—the reigning MPSF Pair of the Year—who posted a combined record of 31-4 together last year.
New additions include junior transfer Ava Williamson from Arizona State—a second-team All-American in her previous program—and several freshmen who have already made appearances this season.
Head coach Jenny Johnson Jordan enters her third year leading UCLA after serving as an assistant coach during back-to-back NCAA titles in previous years. Kelly Reeves returns as assistant coach for her third season alongside new assistant Theo Brunner.
UCLA remains ranked No. 2 nationally after starting as preseason No.1 earlier this year; since 2018 no team has spent more weeks atop national rankings than UCLA according to AVCA Poll records.
Looking ahead, UCLA will host the East Meets West Invitational in Manhattan Beach on March 13–14 where they will face Arizona State, LSU, Texas, and FIU.
